The craft
On the loom, and off it.
Thick weaves and thin weaves are loomed, up to eight metres wide. Thin weaves take an extra step: every warp and weft is pre-braided by hand, which is why they wear so well in hallways and hotels.
Round and oval pieces never touch a loom. A weaver sits on the floor or at a table and coils the rope outward, turn by turn. It takes twice as long, and only our most accomplished weavers do it.
Art weaves are pieced and stitched from loomed panels: geometry, lettering, a portrait, a chessboard.
